HANDCRAFTED GUITARS IN COLUMBIA, TN

About our company

Jim, our company owner and founder, began woodworking in college as a hobby. He began setting up his first woodworking shop in 2017 and started posting Youtube videos about the process. In 2020, he built his first acoustic guitar and quickly realized building acoustic guitars matched his passion for working wood with hand-tools, power-tools, mortise and tenon joinery, veneer work, inlay and marquetry and carving to name a few. Combining a variety of woodworking techniques to ultimately build a functional tool for guitar players lead to the formation of LastingBuild Luthiery. In early 2023, Jim began training a team to help with building the guitars and the first guitar for sale will be available in early 2024. Since the first guitar, Jim began studying the intricacies of instrument building and has now designed two models in which we are now building in our shop.

About our guitars

In 2024, we are building two acoustic guitar models and 3 editions of each. Our current models are the Orchestra and Auditorium. Our Orchestra model is a beautifully shaped, mid-sized, 6 steel-string guitar with 14 frets to the body. Our auditorium model has a similar overall shape but is a large body guitar with more projection and bass. It has a maximum thickness of just over 4 ¾ inches and a max width of just over 16 inches. As with the Orchestra model, it is a 6 steel-string guitar with 14 frets to body. We also have a parlor guitar in the works.

For each model, we offer 3 editions

The first is the players edition. It is intended to be an all-around great guitar but held to a price point by avoiding the expensive upgrades. The players edition is available in solid book-matched Mahogany or Indian Rosewood back and sides and has a solid book-matched spruce or western red cedar top. The body is bound by synthetic bindings for overall protection and beauty. The top and back are braced with quarter-sawn spruce and are hand voiced. The neck is one piece, hand carved mahogany with an Indian Rosewood fretboard. The bridge is Indian rosewood. The instrument is capped off with a polished bone nut, saddle and bridge pins.

The second is the Deluxe edition. Each Deluxe edition guitar is a high-end guitar for a very reasonable price. This edition has triple laminated sides with solid beveled linings for increased side stiffness and projection. We use many combinations of book-matched exotic and domestic woods for the back and sides and high-grade book-matched spruce, redwood and western red cedar soundboards. Each deluxe edition guitar has steam bent, wooden bindings and complex wood and/or shell perflings and rosettes. On this edition, we offer beveled arm rests for added comfort and beauty. The soundboard is braced with quarter-sawn spruce and the back with quarter-sawn mahogany. All braces are hand voiced. We use one piece quarter-sawn mahogany necks combined with either Indian Rosewood or Ebony fingerboards and bridges. On this edition, we hand carve the neck including the voluted-headstock and architectural heel. The instrument has a polished bone nut, saddle and bridge pins.

The third is the Collector’s edition. These guitars are a one of a kind and intended to be of museum quality. Each collector’s edition guitar is unique and represents a special occasion or build. The collector’s edition guitars have elaborate inlay and marquetry and are built from the finest of tonewoods. The first collector edition build took over a year to complete and is known as “The Vineyard”. It is special because it represents the first guitar available for sale and the last guitar Jim built on his own prior to building the LastingBuild Luthiery Team. The next Collector’s edition build is planned for guitar #25.

For the guitar finish, we offer hand rubbed oil, traditional French polish and nitrocellulose lacquer.

We offer a variety of acoustic pickup options for our guitars.
